Newsletter: Happy new year!

My dear friends,

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year for 2019. It has been a long time since I have given news, and there are so many exciting developments.

Today I want to share a project that has been close to my heart for a long time: the building of Centre Nawali « the house of possibilités » in Mohéli, Comoros.

The vision of Centre Nawali is to provide resources for single mothers, children and artists, while also aiming to preserve the intangible and rich heritage of the Comoros Islands.

The Centre Nawali will create jobs and offer workshops and training for personal, professional and artistic development. It will also be a place to welcome artists in residence for creation or groups for various internships.

As many of you know, I was born in Comoros and then came to France as teenager, where I grew up. Over the past 15 years I have been travelling to Comoros more and more, and was named the UN Goodwill Ambassador for the Comoros.

After witnessing such a lack of opportunity and lack of access to resources over and over again, I felt determined to create a place that can nourish and elevate women, children and future artists on all levels – mind, body and soul. Two plots of land have already been purchased on Mohéli, the smallest and least developed Island of Comoros.

In 2017 the NGO Centre Nawali was formed in Nioumachoua, Mohéli and in 2018, the French association « Les Amis de Nawali » was formed in Paris.

We are asking for your help to begin the construction of the foundation and walls for the Centre Nawali. Our initial goal is to raise 10 000€. This will allow us to begin the work and apply for grants.

All donations are tax deductible

We are very grateful for any donation, however big or small. The total cost to complete the construction project from beginning to end is currently estimated at 200 000€.

To honor our donors, we will create an “infinite artwork” sculpture. This piece will include the names of donors, and will be built by local artists from Mohéli. It will the continually evolve with visiting artists from all over the world.

Thank you and I wish you all the best for this end of year and 2019.

With love and gratitude,

Nawal & The Centre Nawali Team
